NADJ Annual Conference & AGM 2013 – Titley’s Titbits Guide To Bradford

Martin Titley will be at the NADJ Annual Conference & AGM 2013. He's given us his insider knowledge about how to get to the New Playhouse Theatre, where to stay, park, eat and drink. All of this in his 'Titley's Titbits Guide To Bradford'Hello everyone!  I’m Martin Titley and you may have come across me at the NADJ Yorkshire branch meetings in Cleckheaton or in the pages of Pro Mobile magazine.  I’m probably best known for my love of tracking down new music that helps DJs to fill their dance floors with ‘Titley’s Titbits’ – an unmissable feature at my local NADJ branch meeting, even if I do say so myself.

On the 14th April 2013, the NADJ Annual Conference & AGM arrives in my neck of the woods and they’ve chosen a cracking venue giving comfort, space and plenty of room for networking.  If you’re local, it’s an easy place to find, in fact you’ll probably already know exactly where you want to park your vehicle or grab a bite to eat.

For all of you who aren’t local, this is the ‘Titley’s Titbits Guide To Bradford’ – please don’t laugh too loud or for too long when you read that!

Travel & Accommodation Information

If arriving by bus or train, the train station is about 7-10 minutes walk from the New Bradford Playhouse.  There are hotels, bars restaurants and takeaways all within a short walk of the NADJ Annual Conference & AGM.  This includes the Holiday Inn Express, which is part of the Leisure Exchange complex.

The Leisure Exchange gives you a 24 lane (I believe) 10-pin bowling alley, various restaurants, Chinese buffet, Pizza Hut, cinema and casino.  It also has a large 10 floor car park (watch out for height restrictions if you’re planning to bring a van).

It can be expensive to park there as it’s an NCP 24-hour CCTV monitored facility and it’s obviously close to all the attractions mentioned, but is ideal for, well parking your vehicle.  The hotel is above the bowling alley and, so I’m told is quiet, warm and clean and with it being a Holiday Inn Express hotel, fairly cheap and cheerful.

Other options are the Travelodge (5 minute walk away) and both are reasonable in price and can offer a great way of making the conference inexpensive way of resting your head after the event.

Bradford has many more hotels in the area and the further out of centre of Bradford you go, the higher the chance of there being on-site and free car parking spaces.  The newly opened Ibis hotel, is a 15 minute walk, but it’s across a busy road and rests on a hill near to the Foster Square Retail Park.

The Midland Hotel, is probably one of the more glamorous hotels in Bradford, but will be the top end of many DJ’s budgets.

With the retail park close to all these hotels, it might be worth a visit before you join us at the conference, with Costa Coffee and McDonald’s both being open throughout the day and into the evening.  There’s also ASDA and Tesco supermarkets in the area, so if you want to stock up on all suppliers you may need – this may include hangover aids for the following day!

With the night life being mainly bars in the city centre, Yates and JD Wetherspoon establishments always make a showing somewhere don’t they?  Well, Bradford is no different!

Bradford has a few bars throughout the centre, mainly the other side from where the conference is situated, but it’s still within a 10 minute walk and can be right into the heart of the city at Centenary square.  If you get lost its where the town hall is.

If you do want a bite to eat in Bradford, you can’t go wrong getting a curry.  After all its home to many award winning curry restaurants, and Bradford is world famous for curries… it would be rude not to, well if you go to Blackpool do you get some rock?  Of course you do!

There are plans for a DJ meet-up after the NADJ AGM and if you want some ideas on the ideal curryhouse, let me know and we can put the information on the NADJ website, the Association’s Facebook page, the NADJ Annual Conference page on Facebook, our Twitter feeds and also on the dedicated event website (www.djexpo.co.uk).

Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing some old and new faces at the NADJ Annual Conference & AGM 2013!

Martin Titley
